Dr. Patricio Bohórquez Rodriguez de Medina

Environmental Hydraulics Laboratory at Lausanne (June 2008-Oct 2008)
Just after being awarded with my Ph.D. degree, I have started to collaborate with Prof C.A. Ancey and M. Rentschler at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Lausanne) as a Post-doctoral Researcher. Key highlight arising from this research includes the quantification of the error when employing depth-averaged models instead of Continuum Mechanics approaches for the intense transport of non-cohesive sediment.

PhD Student at the University of Malaga (Sept 2004-June 2008)
I was studying my Ph.D. whilst employed as a research assistant with Prof R. Fernandez-Feria. My doctoral thesis is entitled Study and numerical simulation of sediment transport in free-surface flow. At Malaga I am supported by a Spanish Government fellowship for 4 years to investigate theoretical aspects of hyperconcentrated free surface flows. The animation shown below depicts the numerical simulation of the experiments by Capart & Young (1998: J. Fluid Mech. 372, 165-187)

... and other:

University of Southampton (June 2006 -- Sept 2006 | Sept 2007 -- Dec 2007)
Recently, I have started to collaborate with Prof S. Darby at the School of Geography as a Visiting Researcher. My research concerns hydraulic models of glacial outburst floods. Below, you will find the numerical simulation of the flood ocurred at Mont Mine (Ferpecle, Switzerland) in 1943.

The Andalusian Environmental Centre (Sept 2004 -- June 2005)
I took the Ph.D. courses at The Andalusian Environmental Centre (CEAMA, Granada, Spain) and the doctoral program is entitled Dynamics of biogeochemical flows and its applications. My special topics were in fluid mechanics, hydraulic and fluvial morphodynamics.
